Brent Cox


Brent has been practicing law since 2008 when he became a judicial law clerk in Kentucky’s 28th Judicial Circuit. As a judicial law clerk, Brent worked on matters ranging from death penalty cases to will contests, business litigation, and property claims. In 2010, Brent went into private practice and has handled cases involving criminal defense, collections, personal injury, and family law.

A majority of Brent's current practice is criminal defense involving drug related cases and serious matters where firearms or serious physical force is used such as assaults, murders, and capital cases. Brent prefers complex litigation and focuses on matters which may be resolved in trials by jury.

Personal Injury & Wrongful Death

I represent individuals and the families of individuals who have been seriously injured or killed as the result of the negligent or wrongful conduct of others including, but not limited to, motor vehicle accidents, medical negligence, defective products, and slip and fall.

Criminal Defense

I defend persons who are accused or may be accused of felonies and/or misdemeanors, white collar crimes, and drug offenses; probation violations and revocations; DUIs; and in cases as serious as murder and capital cases. I provide defense in the courts of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and the United States District Courts in the Eastern and Western Districts of Kentucky.

Family Law

I handle dissolution of marriage, division of marital assets, restitution of non-marital assets, spousal maintenance, and establishing and modifying child custody, support, and timesharing, as well as post-decree enforcement of agreements and orders. In addition, I provide defense in juvenile cases of dependency, neglect, and/or abuse.

Civil Litigation

I handle a wide variety of cases which require resolution before a court or administrative tribunal including matters involving the practice areas listed here.

Debt Collection

I initiate collection suits, lien filings, foreclosures, and levies, as well as other pre- and post-judgment collections remedies for creditors.

Business & Commercial Litigation

I represent clients in matters involving fraud, misrepresentation, breach of contract, tortious interference with business relations and contracts, business contract disputes, non-compete and employment agreements, business or "white collar" torts, and other business related matters.

Business Law

I handle business related disputes regarding leases, business transactions, debt collection, non-compete agreements, employment issues, or consumer disputes.


I provide advice, counseling and representation in insurance litigation and coverage issues. I handle issues that arise in such claims, including, but not limited to, declaratory judgment actions, reservation of rights and denial of claims, policy language drafting and interpretation, coverage opinions, notice of claims and triggers of coverage and bad faith litigation.


I assist clients in matters involving rental of commercial and residential real property. I handle matters involving the drafting or reviewing of leases as well as representing landlords or tenants in evictions, security deposit disputes, forcible detainers, and unlawful evictions.

Appellate Practice

I handle civil or criminal appeals for cases, whether or not I was trial counsel, in the appellate courts of the Commonwealth of Kentucky and at the United States Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit.
